Fergie and Josh Duhamel have announced their separation following eight years of marriage.
The singer, 42, and actor, 44, released a joint statement on Thursday saying they had parted ways earlier in the year.
It read: “With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year.
“To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public.”
The pair, who have been together for 13 years, added in the statement given to People magazine: “We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
Fergie and Josh share four-year-old son Axl together.
The news will come as a shock to many as less than a week ago she was quizzed about speculation she was expecting her second child.
“I’ve heard so many rumours about all of that. I have no idea what’s in the future,” the star told 103.5 KTU.
The singer was spotted in Brazil without her wedding ring this week as she promotes her new album titled Double Duchess, while Josh was back home in Los Angeles with their son. He was still wearing his wedding ring.
The pair began dating in 2004 after Fergie appeared on his show Las Vegas with The Black Eyed Peas. They got engaged in December 2007 and married two years later in Malibu, California.
They haven’t been spotted in public together for some time – the last picture of them together was taken back in January.
Josh shared a sweet family snap on Instagram that was captioned: “8 years! Love you babe.”
Fergie also posted a snap of her own of them cuddling up to one another. “Happy 8th anniversary to my bae,” she wrote.
In May, Josh gave an interview to Haute Living where he opened up about the pair’s marriage.
“We genuinely like each other,” the actor revealed.
“[We] have a lot of love for our son and have a good time together,” he added. “And that’s about it.”
