Embrace boho style this season

Embrace escapism this season with folklore fashion. Inspired by peasant costume through the ages this fairytale trend has evolved to become a favourite year-round. Reimagined for each season, it is always steeped with embellishment details such as classic embroideries and crochet, mixed in with floral prints. Try layering different textures and fabrics, combining sheer, opaque and embellished materials to create the ‘thrown together’ aesthetic of this style. Choose colours and tones that compliment one another to stop the look becoming jumbled.  For inspiration, check out Bora Aksu, Coach and Temperley.

Try faux fur this season

When selecting outerwear, embrace how far the high street has come in terms of faux fur production. Imitation fur is big for A/W’17 from traditional caramel hues to fun and frivolous bright tones and animal prints, a faux fur coat is not only a cosy and stylish choice this winter, it slips into the folklore trend perfectly as it reflects its Russian roots.

Embroidery is key to the folklore trend

Boho style embroidery ruled the roost in the summer and folklore is essentially the winter version of this trend. Still taking inspiration from boho styling, folklore relies on patterned and textured embroideries to add detail to blouses and kimono coats. Navy and yellow are a great winter combination as it adds just a little ray of sunshine to gloomier days. Look for aztec inspired markings to really bring the heritage vibe to life.

Bead embellishment is perfect for party wear

Switch up your party dress for desk to disco by wearing an embellished party dress, like this Forever Unique metallic one with a sumptuous knit over the top by day and then allow the dress to shine on its own in the evening. With party season in full swing, it is these little tricks that will allow you to dance seamlessly from your office to the Christmas work do in minutes. To continue the folklore trend, try some oversized tribal jewellery, like this amazing piece from Pebble London to reinforce the style. When it comes to coats, don’t forget to wrap up! Flight jackets are still a key silhouette for the end of the year and this chocolate coloured one from Reiss is timeless.

Brown jacket, £895, Reiss; Jumper, £19.99, New Look; Dress, £199.99, Forever Unique; Necklace, £120; gold bracelet, £45; bracelet, £40, all Pebble London

Look for vintage style knitwear

Fabric combinations are key to nailing folklore. This vintage looking knit from Madeleine opens up a huge colour palette to play with. Don’t be afraid to mix florals and other prints in one look if you are tonally keeping it similar. Once again, oversized accessories such as beaded and shell necklaces help to reconnect this trend with its fairytale roots, while this beautifully embellished coat is the perfect partner in crime for the party season.
